    Synopsis

If a hungry little traveler shows up at your house, you might want to give him a cookie. If you give him a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk. He'll want to look in a mirror to make sure he doesn't have a milk mustache, and then he'll ask for a pair of scissors to give himself a trim....

The consequences of giving a cookie to this energetic mouse run the young host ragged, but young readers will come away smiling at the antics that tumble like dominoes through the pages of this delightful picture book.

    Annotation

Relating the cycle of requests a mouse is likely to make after you give him a cookie takes the reader through a young child's day.

    Children's Literature

Bright colorful drawings and an entertaining story of how one simple event, giving a mouse a cookie, triggers other thoughts and events. Everyone knows that if you give a mouse a cookie...well, he'll end up wanting your entire house! As the pushy rodent demands more and more it is easy for children to relate to the activities which are attributed to the mouse, but really relate to their lives. This popular story is available in regular book, book and audio and big book versions for story time in schools and libraries.

09/26/2009: This book as well as every book in the series is great for reading along with your toddler. I read it with my toddler and leave off the last word on every page and he finishes the sentences. He loves it and I love seeing him so engaged and having fun with reading!

06/13/2009: This is one of the cutest books I've found for my little one. He really enjoys it, and it was on his school's Reading Counts list, so it required him to think more than usual as well. The little mouse in the story is so cute, he's unforgettable!!! A definite MUST for any young reader's library (or, in my case, too, a future kindergarten teacher's library!)!!!!
