Biography
Bill English, MCSE, MCT, CTT+, GSEC, is a Microsoft MVP for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. He is president of MindSharp, a leading training and consulting company for SharePoint Products and Technologies, and the author of several books on SharePoint Portal Server.
Ben Curry, CISSP, MCP, CNE, CCNA, is a trainer and consultant who specializes in SharePoint Products and Technologies. He has more than 15 years of experience designing, implementing, and helping secure datacenter solutions, and previously worked as a network architect at NASA.

09/23/2008: If I have to describe this book in two words then it is not `THE BEST? but `BEYOND BEST?. If you are an Administrator or Architect, this book is a must have for you. Once again Ben Curry has fulfilled our expectations similar to SharePoint Administrators Pocket Consultant. My very first impression about the book was, how come Ben write 700 pages about SharePoint best practices. Then I read the book and I was surprised with the details provided in the book. It not only tells you What to do but also sheds light on Why to do it and little bit of How to do it (this is accepted as it is not a How to do manual). If you are beginner or novice to SharePoint or looking for how to do kind of stuff or if you are a developer (like me) and are looking for development related technical details then I suggest that this book is not the one you are looking for. The book is divided in four parts: Planning and Designing Building Deploying Operating Even the first part only is well worth the price of the book. The book is full of no-nonsense tips, real life examples, scenarios and practices. This book is highly recommended during the planning and implementation phase of any SharePoint application. If you want to become a SharePoint Administrator or SharePoint Architect then you cannot miss this book. I would like to read more about SharePoint from Ben.

08/26/2008: I have read many technical books, and as I began this one I found the introductory paragraphs wordy and convoluted. Since I am very interested in learning as much as possible on the subject, I resolved to continue reading. If I had not, I would not have discovered -- a great treasure. Best Practices is written for those familiar with SharePoint and those who are just beginning. It is an easy read, but full of content and is structured to ensure a deeper understanding and knowledge of SharePoint Server 2007 and WSS 3.0. It begins with considerations that are oftentimes overlooked in most technical writings, is well organized, practical, based on real-world experiences, and presents a great ?guide? for planning, installing, configuring, and maintaining a SharePoint Solution. I have studied, trained, certified, and implemented SharePoint Services 3.0 and SharePoint Server 2007 ? and if I could have only one reference, this is the one I would choose. The next step is to prepare training materials and labs based on the book.
