    Synopsis

The best-selling author of Mean Girls offers straight talk for teen girls about the image they project. Quizzes, sidebars, and creative suggestions for dressing with style show girls what "sexy" really means.

    Barbara Johnston - VOYA

Current female fashions show a lot of skin. What's the big deal? DiMarco states that hormone-driven males assume that what girls show is "on the menu." Girls need to discover their real image-the one that God has in mind. Simple decisions about being artsy or preppy and answers to dilemmas-I like it when guys look at my chest-will help reveal individual style and sexual comfort level. Heavy makeup, tattoos, and piercings can also be misleading and create an unwanted turn-on to guys. Armed with this new understanding and a commitment and confession of sin, girls will be able to move beyond this tease image toward holiness. To reinforce their new PR packaging and create a cute new look, DiMarco then suggests having a "Dressing Party" to examine, discard and layer clothes that are too sexy. DiMarco uses hip language and slang such as "horn puppy" and "wannabe" to convey her message about "too hot" clothes, but Bible quotes and references reinforce her conservative Christian position. Although the cover photo shows a sexy blond in a red tube top, there are no other color illustrations. Some chapter introductions have black color bands that seem to accent the moral message. "Dear Hayley" advice letters and quirky facts-the very first hair dryers were adapted vacuum cleaners-add interesting impact. DiMarco makes it quite clear that sexy clothes and sex belong in the marriage relationship only. Church libraries might want to add her book to their collections. 04/26/2007: Regrettably, most 'sexy girls' would not consider reading this book unless it had this kind of cover. The cover is appropriate.
