10/14/2004: We were originally using 'Learning American Sign Language' (Tom Humphries/Carol Padden) and it was much more user-friendly than 'A Basic Course in ASL.' It's harder to tell what the signs are and I found the combination of vocabulary words in each section odd. (Like they're trying to get you to be able to sign a sentence as opposed to learning things that are related. I understand why, but I don't prefer that method.) This might be a good book for someone who already knows the signs but for a beginner like me, this is difficult-even with an excellent professor. (By the way, my professor dislikes it too but her boss is making her use it.)
