If a hungry little traveler shows up at your house, you might want to give him a cookie. If you give him a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk. He'll want to look in a mirror to make sure he doesn't have a milk mustache, and then he'll ask for a pair of scissors to give himself a trim....
The consequences of giving a cookie to this energetic mouse run the young host ragged, but young readers will come away smiling at the antics that tumble like dominoes through the pages of this delightful picture book.

Relating the cycle of requests a mouse is likely to make after you give him a cookie takes the reader through a young child's day.
Bright colorful drawings and an entertaining story of how one simple event, giving a mouse a cookie, triggers other thoughts and events. Everyone knows that if you give a mouse a cookie...well, he'll end up wanting your entire house! As the pushy rodent demands more and more it is easy for children to relate to the activities which are attributed to the mouse, but really relate to their lives. This popular story is available in regular book, book and audio and big book versions for story time in schools and libraries.

12/05/2009: This is one of the books that will always be on my bookshelf and ready to pull out when the kids come over. It is just a cute, fun book that children and adults alike love. It is just adorable and now there are some stuffed animal mice like the mouse in the story at Kohls to go along with the book to support I believe St. Jude's Children's Hospital (I am not sure that is the correct charity), but when purchasing this most recently for my great niece she really loved the mouse to accompany the book.
I very much recommend it, especially for younger children, who will then pull it out and read it again later in life when they need a good laugh (or at least I do).I Also Recommend: The Giving Tree, Goodnight Moon, Are You My Mother?, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

09/26/2009: This book as well as every book in the series is great for reading along with your toddler. I read it with my toddler and leave off the last word on every page and he finishes the sentences. He loves it and I love seeing him so engaged and having fun with reading!
