    Annotation

Audience: Academic photography and lighting courses; trade potential in both still and motion picture/video photography markets; specialty accounts with lighting distributors, Lighting Dimensions.

    Library Journal

This is a practical text for photographers (student or working pro) who need to solve a lighting problem. The exercises use minimal equipment and are based on studio still lifes; once understood, the principles can be used anywhere. By controlling the size of the light source, the type of reflection, and the family of angles of the reflections, the photographer can get the results he wants. Step-by-step examples include lighting glass, metal, shiny, black on black, and white on white subjects. Film range vis-a-vis shadows and highlights and the problems of mixed fluorescent and tungsten lighting are discussed, as are different types of studio lights. Illustrations are well placed and helpful. Recommended.-- Rona Mosler, Hackettstown P.L., N.J.

07/30/2009: I am a beginner with some experience - on trial and error base. This book gave me deeper understanding of light and the way one can manage the light. Good examples, understandable language, improves skills if you follow the examples.

04/13/2009: Great book for semi-professional and professional photographers. Students could learn much. But you have to be open to the fact you may not have put all the parts together that this book does. I will never think of light and photography in the same way now. Definitely one to get. Does not matter if you shoot digital or film. The information is applicable for ALL photography.
