Wendy M. Smith-D'Arezzo <%ISBN%>1416914633 - Children's Literature

Alice is your typical teenaged girl. She worries that she is too fat. She wants a boyfriend: "I wish I were popular and beautiful and wealthy and talented." She frequently makes resolutions in her diary to do better in school, work toward a calmer relationship with her mother, and lose weight. Her life changes when she goes to a party and is given acid in her drink. She loves the feeling the drug gives her: "Closed my eyes and the music began to absorb me physically. I could smell it and touch it and feel it as well as hear it." She wants more and quickly becomes a part of the drug scene. For about a year and a half Alice goes on and off drugs and runs away from home twice. Each time she manages to find her way back to her parents. They take her in, get her help, and all seems to be rosy until Alice is once again given acid without her knowledge. This time, she has a bad trip, ends up in the hospital, and then a mental hospital. Her parents stick by her, but her life of drug abuse ultimately ends with a fatal overdose—whether it is intentional or accidental is not known. Go Ask Alice has become a classic story of warning against the use of drugs. For the teen scene of 2006, this story will appear as slightly dated. The issues of relationships both in and out of school have not changed much in the last thirty years, but there are subtle differences in the culture that may prove distracting for a young person reading this book today. The basic story remains a chilling cautionary tale. 2005 (orig. 1971), Simon Pulse/Simon & Schuster, , and Ages 14 to 18.

12/01/2009: The main character Alice is this normal girl who decided to go to her gandma's house for the summer. But then when Alice goes to a sleep-over and gets tricked into doing LSD things go bad.And I mean BAD!!!

The plot in this story is about how Alice gets tricked into doing LSD and wants to do more of it.And then Alice moves away from her parents.(SOBB!)But when she moved away to California her and her friend Chris made a little store.Just the two of them.and then felt like they wanted to go home to they're parents so they did.

The book didn't really state the time, and since it was a diary it didn't state where it took place either.I think it took place in the past though.

I think the theme of this story is that drugs can mess you up, and you don't want that to happen to you.

I LOVED this story!I loved it so much because it always makes you want to keep reading.

I could connect to this story because, at times in my life I've messed up and never been able to fix it.I've also done something that I know my parents wouldn't let me do.

This is the best book ever made it is too cool!!!by Anonymous

11/30/2009: Go Ask Alice

By:Anonymous

Alice is a fifteen year old girl that is now dead but she was a good girl. She had brown hair and was a little fluffy in the beginning of the book. Alice was also a little obsessed with a boy named roger even though she was moving the feeling grew stronger. Anyway Alice got skinner when she started doing drugs. Alice changed from that point on.

Plot/description of the story

Go Ask Alice was about a fifteen year old girl that takes the wrong way in life. What I mean by this is that she starts taking drugs. This all happened by mistake for young Alice. The insentient happened when she went back to her old house to visit her grandparents and friends. Well the popular children invited her to a party and later in the night the said they were going to play a game called find the button. Alice went to play the game and she got her cup then a friend said that it was too bad that someone had to babysit. This comment confused Alice so she just went on to play the game. Alice drank her soda and started feeling dizzy then a girl said that she was the lucky one. But the resone Alice was dizzy because she had just been drugged with LSD. This is when the train of drugs began for Alice as she wanted more and more. That is as far as I will go in the story.

Setting

This story takes place in the past and it starts in then goes to finally goes to

then back to . I know that it is in the past because it said that Alice died from an overdose at the end of the book. The other information is stated in the book itself.

Theme

the theme of this story is to stay off drugs because it runes your life and the others around you get effected as well as yourself. It also runes your life who knows you can be the person to die from it!!

My Opinion

I enjoyed this story because it teaches life lessons. I would recommend this story to people eleven and up for this book is very descriptive about what happens, it is the true diaries of Alice.

My Connections

I connect to this book in two ways. The first person in the book I connect to is Alice because in the beginning she didn't have many friends like when I first started school I had no friends. The second is Chris (a girl Alice was doing drugs with) because she got involved in something that is not great. This is like me because me and my cousins got in a fight with some despicable children. This is my connection for this book which reminds me of other great books. The are Ruby Holler and the fire within series but that's my opinion. Thank you for reading.

I Also Recommend: Ruby Holler, Flush, Briana's Gift, Underworld: Blood Enemy, The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #1).
