Deck the halls with romance, intrigue, and great antiques!
It's the week before Christmas, and antiques dealer Weezie Foley is in a frenzy to garnish her shop for the Savannah historical district contest. She's ready to shoot herself with her glue gun by the time she's done, but the results are stunning. She's certainly one-upped the owners of the trendy boutique around the corner, but suddenly things start to go missing from her display, and there seems to be a mysterious midnight visitor to her shop.
Still, Weezie has high hopes—perhaps in the form of an engagement ring from her chef boyfriend, though Daniel, always moody at the holidays, seems more distant than usual. But throw in Weezie's decidedly odd family, a 1950s Christmas tree pin, and even a little help from the King himself (Elvis, that is), and maybe there will be a pocketful of miracles for Weezie this Christmas Eve.
Weezie Foley has high hopes for Christmas this year. She's working herself into a frenzy decorating her antique shop to win the Savannah historic district decorating contest; she's searching for the perfect present for her chef boyfriend, Daniel; she planning Christmas dinner for the first time for her and Daniel's families. Add a mysterious visitor to the shop and a missing Christmas tree pin and it's almost more than Weezie can handle. Andrews's delightful characters come to life thanks to Keating's reading, which offers just the right mixture of Southern twang and upbeat lilt. She nicely captures the humor that runs through the novel and the variety of characters that populate Weezie's life. The male voices tend to come across as hoarse instead of masculine, but this doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment of a delightful Christmas tale full of memorable characters. This audio is the perfect gift this holiday season. Simultaneous release with the HarperCollins hardcover. (Nov.)

07/06/2009: I was very disappointed and amazed. As I started reading the chapter, I was able to say almost verbatim what the next line was going to be. This exact same story was featured in a television show "Ghost Whisperer". No where on the cover or anywhere I could access did anything relate to this fact. I loved the television version but, golly, what a shock that it wasn't mentioned in the book. I won't be buying this book as I have seen it, twice in fact, as a rerun.
This is definitely not to say it isn't a book to be enjoyed. It is a very touching story. It is amusing, romantic, charged, and a very good escapism book. If I hadn't immediately recognized it I would probably buy it just for the enjoyment then give it to someone else to read.Reader Rating:

06/15/2009: This is a must read, and not just for those of us who are true romantics and love a happy ending, especially at Christmas time. I did how ever read it in May, in sunny South Carolina and was just as delighted with all the visuals and smells (that your mind can conjor up) just as if it really were a snowy white Christmas out-side. The Characters in the book are as alive and right there with you, as you walk down the street, hear the conversations and enjoy all the window displays. Maybe a second book will follow this winter and let us spend the 4th of July with them, as we are all snuggled up on the couch with a Hot Chocolate.
I Also Recommend: Savannah Blues, Savannah Breeze, Little Bitty Lies, Deep Dish, Hissy Fit.
