    Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Andrew R Salama, DDS, MD (University of Maryland)
Description:This second edition of a comprehensive and concise review of pertinent topics in oral and maxillofacial surgery encountered in residency training is an improvement over the first edition.
Purpose:The purpose is to compile answers to commonly encountered questions in clinical practice on general topics that are required for safe practice, but are not readily available in a single source. The authors have admirably accomplished this objective.
Audience:The audience is broad, including students, residents, and trained surgeons, according to the author. The breadth of detail is satisfactory for trainees and the book is a good starting point, but it is by no means a comprehensive reference.
Features:The book covers the breadth of the specialty, but the strengths are in the review of general patient care, trauma, infections, and anatomy. These topics are discussed in enough detail for most germane issues that arise in these areas. The section on reconstruction is somewhat incomplete.
Assessment:This is a unique book, and I would consider it a "must have" for trainees in the early stages of their study. It can almost be used as a bedside or ward quick reference, although it was not designed for this purpose.
