    Synopsis

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker–his classmate and crush–who committed suicide two weeks earlier.

On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.

Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

    Biography

Jay Asher got the idea for Thirteen Reasons Why at a museum. While taking an audio tour, he was struck by the eeriness of the voice in his ear–a woman who described exactly what he was looking at, but wasn’t there. Jay lives on the central coast of California. Thirteen Reasons Why is his first book. Find out more about him at www.discomermaids.blogspot.com.

Thirteen Reasons Why; A book to read!by -Lorey-

11/28/2009: I have been looking to buy Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher for about a week now, but haven't had the chance to get to a B & N until today and I am definitely glad I made the decision to get this book! I read it in a matter of hours and sincerely hope Mr. Asher will write similar books soon. The map on the reverse side of the book cover was also a very nice touch. Every time Hannah or Clay mentioned a location, I immediately pulled out that map. I loved being able to follow along with Hannah as she told her story and with Clay as he retraced both his and her steps.

I have absolutely no complaints about this book, but would only recommend it to more mature readers because of some of the things mentioned (suicide, rape, etc.)
