Featuring a new paperback cover to match hardcover of Kingdom Keepers II:
In this fantastical thriller, five young teens tapped as models for theme park "guides" find themselves pitted against Disney villains and witches that threaten both the future of Walt Disney World and the stability of the world outside its walls. Using a cutting-edge technology called DHIwhich stands for both Disney Host Interactive and Daylight Hologram ImagingFinn Whitman, an Orlando teen, and four other kids are transformed into hologram projections that guide guests through the park. The new technology turns out, however, to have unexpected effects that are both thrilling and scary. Soon Finn finds himself transported in his DHI form into the Magic Kingdom at night. Is it real? Is he dreaming?
Finn's confusion only increases when he encounters Wayne, an elderly Imagineer who tells him that the park is in grave danger. Led by the scheming witch, Maleficent, a mysterious group of characters called the Overtakers is plotting to destroy Disney's beloved realm, and maybe more.
This gripping high-tech tale will thrill every kid who has ever dreamed of sneaking into Walt Disney World after hours and wondered what happens at night, when the park is closed.
For anyone who has imagined what goes on in Walt Disney World after the gates close to the public, Pearson's (Peter and the Starcatchers) tale and Littman's authentic-sounding narration, in middle-schooler Finn Whitman's voice, offer a suspenseful all-access pass to the Magic Kingdom behind the scenes-filled with action, technology and a tricky (and implausible) riddle. Finn lands a cooler-than-cool opportunity after he becomes a model for a new breed of "holographic hosts" (Disney Host Interactive/Daylight Hologram Imaging) at Disney World. But the experience gets weirder than weird when Finn and the other four DHIs find themselves transported to the park via their nighttime dreams and must save the Magic Kingdom from Disney witches and villains called "Overtakers" by solving a puzzle said to be left behind by Walt himself. Littman reads at a smooth pace, speeding up along with the story's tension. He nails realistic kid-like reactions and dialogue even though listeners might find much of the plot hard to believe (and some of the plugs for Disney a bit over the top). Ages 10-up. (Sept.) 11/23/2009: An overall wondeful and breathtaking book, Pearson did very well with this, although maybe 2 or 3 chapters out of the i think 37 might have been a little boring, it had still taken me on anon stop thrill ride. Dont let that 37 number scare you though, because the book is only about 380 pages long and the text is a litlle bigger thani expected so its overall a wonderful book, and what great cover art?
I Also Recommend: Disney at Dawn (The Kingdom Keepers Series #2).

11/02/2009: I enjoyed this book, The Kingdome Keepers at times. Sometimes, it got just plain boring for me. But the parts that were good, were really good. You just have to tell your self that it will get better. In all, thumbs in the middle. Not thrilled.
Being a DHI was not on Finn Witmen's to do list. But then again, he really did not have a choice. His family could use the money. Not that they where poor, it was more like college money. All he had to do is let himself be scanned while doing stuff like walking and talking. Then, Disney will make a hologram of him. That's what a DHI is, a Disney Hologram Interactive. He would be famous. What could g wrong? It all goes wrong when he starts having dreams that he is in Disneyland, after dark, when the park is closed. But dreams are nothing right, they don't mean anything. He finds another DHI in this dream, then another. All five are in his dream. But this dream turns into reality when they get chases by pirates with ray guns that work. They burn. Something has happened. The Evil creatures from the movies are real - and they are sick of losing! They plan to take over the world. Will good once more triumph over evil? I would recommend this book to people who will just stick with it. Once you get past the boring parts. People who like any genre will like it. It is defiantly not a quick read though. It is aimed at people who have not gotten over the magic of Disney. It is really not a bad book. It is just slow.
