Since 1933, The Story About Ping has captivated generations of readers, but never before has it been available in a mass-market paperback format. No one can deny the appeal of the book's hero, Ping, the spirited little duck who lives on a boat on the Yangtze River. Ping's misadventures one night while exploring the world around his home form the basis of this timeless classic, which is brought to life by Kurt Wiese's warm and poignant illustrations.
A little duck finds adventure on the Yangtze River when he is too late to board his master's houseboat one evening.

06/07/2007: This book, like the military, teaches a kid not to be last in line or the last to do anything, but it also teaches that this teaching makes no difference if you can explore and learn if all you'll get for it is a 'swat.' I read this book when very young, but when I read it again with my kid, all those memories came back.

03/05/2006: I have often referred to this book when someone is last to enter a room or post an assignment. Rarely does someone understand my literary reference but my daughters grew up with my favorite children's story and now my grandson will hear me reading it to him as well. I hope he learns the lesson that Ping did that there are worse things in life than taking your 'spank' because it means you are safe with those who love you. My girls always felt safe coming home and taking the heat from mom because they knew it was better than the alternative.
