Synopsis

Featuring all the latest imaging modalities—including ultrasound, MR, and PET/CT—this Second Edition text provides a solid understanding of sectional anatomy and its applications in clinical imaging. Chapters on each body region include patient CT and MR images shown in sequence through multiple planes, followed by clinical cases centered on CT, MR, ultrasound, and PET/CT images. By comparing images from different patients, readers learn to distinguish normal anatomic variations from variations that indicate disease or injury.

This edition includes new clinical cases and has a new layout that makes it easier to compare images from several patients. Each chapter ends with clinical application questions.

Purpose:The purpose is to allow readers the ability to view sectional images of several patients and compare them. Using CT, MRI 3D, and PET, readers will learn about the relationships of anatomical structures in sectional images. The book is necessary as an increasing number of images ordered these days are those done in CT/PET and MRI. The author once again comes through with an indispensable tool.

The line drawings that accompany each image help to pinpoint the exact location of certain structures.

Assessment:As an instructor for a school of radiologic technology, I found this book a most comprehensive look at the field of cross-sectional images. The companion workbook will be enjoyed by all students and Iappreciated the CD with test bank and images annotated and unannotated. The second edition cleans up some typographical errors and provides more in-depth information about pathology, as well as the much needed addition of PET and 3D images. The introduction chapter provides information about Houndsfield units, US and T1 versus T2 imaging in MRI. It is the best book to land on my desk on cross-sectional anatomy.
