He is perhaps best known as past editor of the American Orchid Society Bulletin and founding editor of the scientific orchid journal, Lindleyana. He is a fellow of the Linnean Society of London, a research associate of the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida, and a member of the orchid committee and orchid registration advisory committee of the Royal Horticultural Society.
