    Synopsis

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker–his classmate and crush–who committed suicide two weeks earlier.

On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.

Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

    Biography

Jay Asher got the idea for Thirteen Reasons Why at a museum. While taking an audio tour, he was struck by the eeriness of the voice in his ear–a woman who described exactly what he was looking at, but wasn’t there. Jay lives on the central coast of California. Thirteen Reasons Why is his first book. Find out more about him at www.discomermaids.blogspot.com.

12/05/2009: Jay Asher has outdone himself when it comes to "13 Reasons Why" It's one of those stories you don't want to put down and it keeps you thinking. Unlike other books nowadays it encourages good behavior and shows that the way you treat people or even the way that you react in a situation can effect someone's whole life. Definitally a book worth buying, and rereading. I would even recommend being read in school for class discussions, so people can really open up about the truth and their feelings about suicide and being shunned from society.

12/03/2009: 13 Reasons Why is a book about this girl Hannah who just recently committed suicide. Before she died she decided to record these tapes of her self about thirteen people who effected her life the most while living in this town. The main character Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package lying on his porch with his name on it. When he opens the package he finds 13 cassette tapes that explains the reason Hannah decided to end her life and how these 13 people effected her decision. What i like about the book is it was very intriguing and the characters in it are my age so its easy to relate to. What I didn't like about the book is that the only person you get to hear opinions from is Clay and it would be interesting to hear the opinions of other characters who also received the tapes. I would rate this book four stars because its very interesting and highly recommended.

The main character in 13 Reasons Why is Clay Jensen. He is in high school and is more of the shy guy of the grade. When he receives the tapes that's all that is really important to him, he follows the map Hannah made that goes along with the tapes and wont do anything else until he finishes the tapes. There are 13 people Hannah mentions and Clay isn't mentions till later in the tapes so he won't stop listening until he gets to hear why he effected the decision of Hannah to commit suicide. He does run into some obstacles through out the book that include not ableing him to listen to the tapes so he makes up excused so he can keep listening. Clay eventually learns why he effected her decision and figuring that out he learns to make the small thing in life more important. At the end he becomes more thankful for what he has and doesn't take life for granite.

Why are so many teens committing suicide? When the thirteen teenagers find out that they have effected Hannah's decision to end her life their actions and choices change in many ways, they become more thankful and are try to change their lives for the better. All the reasons that Hannah lists why she made the decision she did was influenced by an actual teenage life because all the events that took place were very realistic. There are many teenage suicides that happen all the time and many ways to stop it but the only way to do that is to try and influence kids to make the right decisions.

This book was a great book to be chosen for the bestsellers list because it was very realistic and could happen to anybody at anytime. Most teenage girls would love this book because it is very intriguing and everyone can relate to it somehow.
