--monthly grow charts that reveal how your baby's motor, language, mental, and social skills develop
--reassuring answers to the questions most parents ask
--brief overviews of what to expect from your baby each month
--proven techniques for soothing crying babies, solving sleep problems, and dealing with diaper rash, fear of strangers, and teething
--essential information on when to call a doctor and the best schedule for immunizations
-- plus more than 150 fascinating photos
Whether you're a first-time parent or an old hand, you'll find that The First Twelve Months Of Life offers a rewarding glimpse into your baby's world that will only deepen your appreciation of the wondrous strides he or she is about to make.
The 20th anniversary edition of this bestselling classic has been revised and updated to include the most current findings on developmental theory. This unique reference, complete with growth charts and more than 150 photographs, also includes answers to the questions commonly asked by new parents, along with overviews of what to expect each month.
This updated edition of a popular guide to child development is not revised as much as supplemented. Much of the original text remains intact, with new information since the book was first published in 1973 added to the work in boxes, new sections, and an updated bibliography. Covering an infant's mental, physical, language, and social development from the first week of life to the 12th month, this guide describes a sequence of events, not a timetable. It also includes growth charts summarizing developmental milestones. Embracing fathers as well as mothers and supporting diverse family types, this handbook has potentially high appeal for contemporary parents. 08/27/2000: I received a hand-me-down, older version of this book prior to the birth of my daughter. This book is a map for the journey you and your child will undertake in his/her development. This is not a 'parenting' book, nor does it approach the subject of children with special needs. It is a reference book on early child development. I knew nothing about child development prior. I read each chapter in anticipation of my daughter's next milestone. This book gives me the ability to understand and anticipate her growth with the foresight from leading experts. I apreciate the breakdown into motor, language, mental, and social. Although it is set up month by month, it is really a progression. Easy(interesting)to read, in-depth but not tedious. I am surprised at the very affordable price of this book.
