    Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Leonard A. Frank, MD (Thomas Jefferson University)
Description:This is the seventeenth edition of a unique general urology book that can be used by medical students for basic information, but also has enough detail to make it an excellent resource for first and second year urology residents. The previous edition was published in 2004.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide concise information on the basic physiologic understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases managed by urologic surgeons.
Audience:The book is written for the medical students, residents, and interns, as well as practicing physicians in general medicine and urologists.
Features:Every facet of urology is covered, with new chapters on female urology, the aging male, and pharmacology of the lower urinary tract. Topics are covered well in an easy to read and comprehend style. The x-ray illustrations are adequate, but could be improved in reproduction. The book also uses diagrams and charts to summarize material in very reader friendly way.
Assessment:This is an excellent book due to its timeliness with new material, user friendly style, and the unique way it accommodates medical students, urology residents, and general medicine physicians who have a peripheral interest in urology issues. This is one of the better books for this audience. With the advances in urology since 2004, the new edition is definitely welcome.
