    Synopsis

THE EAGERLY AWAITED COLLECTION OF PERSONAL ESSAYS FROM THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF MY HORIZONTAL LIFE

When Chelsea Handler needs to get a few things off her chest, she appeals to a higher power -- vodka. You would too if you found out that your boyfriend was having an affair with a Peekapoo or if you had to pretend to be honeymooning with your father in order to upgrade to first class. Welcome to Chelsea's world -- a place where absurdity reigns supreme and a quick wit is the best line of defense.

In this hilarious, deliciously skewed collection, Chelsea mines her past for stories about her family, relationships, and career that are at once singular and ridiculous. Whether she's convincing her third-grade class that she has been tapped to play Goldie Hawn's daughter in the sequel to Private Benjamin, deciding to be more egalitarian by dating a redhead, or looking out for a foulmouthed, rum-swilling little person who looks just like her...only smaller, Chelsea has a knack for getting herself into the most outrageous situations. Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea showcases the candor and irresistible turns of phrase that have made her one of the freshest voices in comedy today.

    Susan McClellan - Library Journal

Best-selling author Handler (My Horizontal Life), a well-known stand-up comic who stars in her own E! network series, Chelsea Handler Lately, has once again written a hilarious book. In this collection of essays on relationships, family life, and her own adventures, she is both charming and brutally honest. In one priceless piece, Handler tells of babysitting a 14-year-old when she herself was only 12; her recollection of her charge's behavior is sure to give readers a good laugh. Also hysterical is the story of how Handler regifted a used game of Rehab to a friend on her birthday-the same game she had herself earlier been gifted. Handler is brilliant at her craft of comedy, and it shows in her descriptions of one witty situation after another. Highly recommended for academic and public libraries and for anyone wanting a good laugh.

12/03/2009: I really enjoyed reading this book. I was going through an emotional rough patch in my life and remembered seeing this book as a recommended reading at my local Barnes and Noble store and picked it up.

Everyday page turned was just funnier and funnier.

I would love to see a live show of Chelsea when she's next performing in the NYC area.

    I Also Recommend: True Blue.

11/14/2009: I really loved her book. I try to watch her on E! every night with her show. There were things that surprised me about it...I seriously worry about some of the things her father says to her. Her friends are pretty interesting too. Overall I gave this 5 stars. Read her book. It's great!
