    Synopsis

First time in retail and library!

    Children's Literature

In the third book of "The Unicorn Chronicles," Cara continues her search for answers about how to protect the unicorns of Luster from the deadly intentions of Beloved, a woman whose heart is repeatedly pierced and then healed by the unicorn horn lodged in her heart. Chapters are written around a number of supporting characters, including Lightfoot, M'Gama, Ian Hunter, Belle, and Finder; this enables the story of the unicorns of Luster and Cara and her grandmother's connection to it to continue. As readers of the series have come to expect, the author is great at developing characters and creating real tension. This is evident as Cara and company are sent off to find the story of the "Whisperer." The Whisperer's secret and its influence with the Delvers and Beloved set the stage for the inevitable war between Beloved and the unicorns. Simultaneously, Cara's father, Ian Hunter—a former unicorn hunter who followed Beloved—has his own travails as he seeks the entrance to the Rainbow Prison so he can rescue his imprisoned wife. Coville has written a strong fantasy series, and the final chapters left me yearning for the next book. Reviewer: Jean Boreen, Ph.D.

04/16/2009: This book was well worth waiting for. Like so many, I already read the first two and pined with baited breath for the third one. Where to start? Firstly, the characters draw you in and allow you to take their amazing journey with them. Also, I enjoyed how B. Coville put a more serious, darker spin on this installment. Not so much the kid fun this time, but more focus on the dire peril Luster hangs in. Cara and her friends have to race against time to thwart Beloved in her quest to invade the unicorns' world and begin the dreaded "Final Hunt." This book also has more involved and complicated storylines where you follow mulitple journeys at once, not just Cara's and that makes it far more interesting. The characters are believable and multi-faceted, they grow and progress well in the story, the cliffhanger ending is great- I just hope Coville doesn't leave us hanging for several years THIS time around- have mercy Mr. Coville! You WILL love this book. It's for all ages, genders, etc., is crosses all borders. Read this book, you will not regret it.
