      Synopsis

Meet Posey. She wears pink clothes, has a pink room, rides a pink bike, and prefers pink desserts. Everything in her pink world is just the way she likes it . . . but what if another color catches her eye? With adorable anime-like illustrations from Yukiko Kido, this book is sure to strike a chord with opinionated little girls and their parents.

      Children's Literature

Posey not only prefers pink, she appears to be pretty demanding about having everything in her favorite color. Everything in her room is pink, her clothes are pink, her toys are pink, and she prefers pink food. When her dad ties to get her to wear blue jeans, posy says no and she reacts the same way when her mother offers an orange sweater. Her parents seem to cater to Posey's every whim, including providing her with a pink lunch of strawberry yogurt, strawberries, watermelon and strawberry milk (why not cherry for some variety?). No peanut butter or bananas for this kid. She throws tantrums and at least the parents do issue time-outs. Off they go to the shopping mall to get Posey a new jacket, but she now announces after refusing several new pink jackets that her new favorite color is purple. Yes, kids do act that way, and I am not sure whether this book encourages that sort of behavior or is supposed to make it amusing. I find Posey and her attitude grating and wonder just why her parents have allowed her to develop in such a way that she is really not a likeable child. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
