    Synopsis

Hailed as the leader of the Impressionist movement, Claude Monet added a new dimension to the world of art with his intense studies of light and color.

Beautifully illustrated with over 160 color images, The Treasures of Monet  records not just the development of his art, but also the twists and turns of his personal life, both of which are given an added dimension by the inclusion of some 30 rare, removable, facsimile documents.

    Among them are:

    • The registration of Monet’s baptism in 1841
    • A poster for probably the first exhibition in which Monet took part in 1858
    • An early caricature by Monet
    • Pages from one of the books of Japanese artwork collected by Monet
    • The registration of Monet’s marriage to his fi rst wife, Camille
    • An invoice of sales to Durand-Ruel, Monet’s principal art dealer
    • A booklet of preparatory drawings by Monet of Rouen Cathedral
    • Monet’s letter to the French Minister of State offering Edouard Manet’s painting Olympia to the State

January 30, 2010: Beautiful illustrations with accurate color registrations, but most art books have these. The two things that set this book apart were first the views of Monet's famous scenes reproduced large and side by side in fold outs. Scenes like the Cathedrals, Haystacks, and Waterlilies are gorgeous in this format. Second the reproduced documents from his life and his work found in pockets in various places through the book makes one feel like a real art historian. Finally through B & N this book is value priced.
