    Synopsis

Nineteen powerfully interwoven stories explore the lives of a fragmented family from Alabama. Landscape and longing are inextricably linked, as the characters travel to New York City, San Francisco, Atlanta, Knoxville, even Iceland, in search of home. A new breed of worldly-wise fiction from the South.

    Jill McCorkle

The Girl in the Fall-Away Dress is a stunning collection filled with heart-stopping moments of such raw emotion that I am left with a vivid array of visions long remembered afterward. There is humor, there is grief-the author skillfully keeping us in that precious spot between the two, so that we are always aware of the fragile filaments linking one experience to another.

October 03, 2002: A set of interlocking stories carries us across time through the expanding experiences of a southern family. The style of narration, with each sister telling her story in turn, is as intimate as a peek through a lighted window. Every word is set like a gem. This master of mood and imagery has given us quite a treat.
