    Biography

It seems an unlikely formula for success: an Oxford professor of Anglo-Saxon, and a book that begins with a little man who lives in a hole in the ground. But The Hobbit, followed by The Lord of the Rings, created the modern genre of heroic fantasy and made J.R.R. Tolkien one of the most widely-read authors in the world.

June 18, 2003: This was pretty insightful I thought, with great essays and articles. However, there were some mistakes. For instance, Eowyn is Theoden's 'sister-daughter' (aka niece, NOT his wife (as whoever was the author supposed...this was a quiz question, even!)

December 19, 2002: This is a great guide to the Lord of the Rings whether you already read all the books or if you just saw the movies and want to know more about them. It gives really thorough background about the characters and themes and Middle-earth and what Tolkien was trying to say in the Lord of the Rings. The only thing I can think of thats missing is a map of Middle-earth or a glossary. But even without those there's a ton of info that will give you a lot of depth about Tolkien's books

But, you can go onto http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/fellowship and get ALL this information for free! Don't get me wrong, This book is great when your on the go or at school or work. But if you spend your time taking notes AT HOME than just copy the link above and paste it in your browser. Its that easy!
