April 25, 2006: The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck was published in 1931. It became one of the most popular novels in the 20th century. It tells of the way ordinary people who are farmers live and struggle to survive on small plots of land in rural China. The main characters, Wang Lung and O-lan, are strong and resourceful, rearing their family during droughts and floods. It is a story that holds your interest and is an eye-opener. Untill this story very little was known of the real way people in rural China lived. It is not so different from that of such people in other places in the world. It is an easy read and I recommend it highly.

January 16, 2005: The Good Earth is fantastic. The book talks about family, love, work, and everything else you could imagine. It portrays a man's life, Wang Lung, and how he suffers through the good and bad. I read it and I did not want to put it down. I have read more than 60 books, and The Good Earth is my all-time favorite!
