      Biography

A chief practitioner of the "magic-realist" style, Gabriel García Márquez's influence and importance lie in his crucial role of bringing Latin-American fiction to wider audiences while pioneering it at the same time. The Colombian-born Nobel winner tells fantastical tales of romance and heroism against an historic Latin American backdrop, always infusing believability by giving his writing a journalistic cast.

July 06, 2009: Great guide to study what I consider the best novel ever written. I do like other Garcia Marquez's books, but this one is simply amazing. I've read it several times and I always manage to find another analogy that I had not seen before. Brilliant.

May 27, 2005: 100 years of solitude is a book that follows the life of Jose Arcadio Buendia, his wife Ursula and their descendants. It is hard to give a summary of this book because there are so many characters and stories. I loved this book. For the most part, Jose Arcadio Buendia is hopelessly in love with science and spends his whole life testing new inventions and fads. His wife, Ursula, is always trying to recover from Jose Arcadio Buendia's interests and keeping her sons and grandsons in line. The author is very good at explaining things and giving you a picture of the situation. The only downfall of this book is that at times it is confusing because there are so many characters and they all have similar names. But on the whole I would recommend this book to anyone.
