      Synopsis

      An exploration of timeless legends.

First told centuries ago, the ancient myths of the Greeks and Romans continue to fascinate and influence the world today. The expanded edition of this popular guide examines why these legends remain an integral part of human history, citing their literary value, and their presence throughout popular culture in such works as J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels, and the Coen brothers' film O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

      • Features a 50-page "who's who" glossary of classical mythological characters— from both the Greek and Roman versions
      • An updated look at recent movies and television series' based on mythology, including Helen of Troy, HBO's animated Odyssey, and the Disney Channel's Hercules

March 03, 2000: This book is fantastic!! The book provides an excellent introduction to Classical Mythology. If you're interested in detailed explainations of all the gods --from Athena to Zeus--and their roles; exciting tales involving heroes such as Hercules, Odysseus, Jason, and Perseus; intense depictions of gruesome monsters such as Medusa, the cyclops, and the Centaurs; and blow-by-blow accounts of the Trojan War, this is your book! Kevin Osborn and Dana L. Burgess provide idiot-proof steps to figuring out who's who in the world of myth--both human and divine. They also provide easy to understand interpretations of the major Greek and Roman tales. I have read many books about Classical Mythology but 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Classical Mythology' by far surpasses any of them. I have read this book twice and plan on reading it again.....It's truely a great book!
