    Synopsis

On the front lines of the global war on terror, CIA superagent Mitch Rapp races to save one more life: his own.

An eye for an eye: that's what the powerful father of a dead terrorist demands in retribution — and with his hate-filled plea, Mitch Rapp becomes the target of an explosive international conspiracy. The fearless operative has both killed with impunity and tortured to avert disaster, all in a battle to preserve freedom. But even among America's allies, some believe the time has come to bring Rapp down. Now the hunter is the hunted, and Rapp must rely on his razor-sharp instincts for survival — and justice — as he unleashes his fury on those who have betrayed him.

    Publishers Weekly

A veteran of more than 800 unabridged novels, Guidall brings his considerable talents to this latest thriller featuring CIA assassin Mitch Rapp. This adventure finds Rapp the target of a billionaire Saudi, who blames Rapp for his son's death and has put a $20-million bounty on the American operative's head. Accepting the offer is a husband and wife assassin team who may be the equal of the seemingly invulnerable Rapp. What follows is an intricate story of death, betrayal and revenge. Guidall's smooth, confident narration and fully developed characterizations make for a first-rate listening experience. He handles Flynn's detailed, and at times long, exposition with ease, while effortlessly switching voices and accents in his portrayal of the book's international cast of characters. He nicely avoids turning the sometimes over-the-top writing into a melodramatic cartoon and keeps the story straightforward and suspenseful. It's a credit to both Flynn and Guidall that this trio of cold-blooded assassins are humanized, which makes the rather surprising ending all the more effective and moving. Simultaneous release with the Atria hardcover (Reviews, Sept. 12). (Oct.) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

December 18, 2009: I was never fully into the Mitch Rapp character not being a fan of CIA, spy, espionage kind of material. However this book took his character to a whole other lever. I can remember reading this and really feeling the anger the writer was trying to get across. At one point I would even agree out loud with some of the things the character would say or do. All in all Flynn did an excellent job and the ending was something I did not expect.

October 26, 2009: A real page turner. Vince Flynn can write as if you are actually watching a movie play out. Very descriptive in both action and location. One of the better novels in the mitch rapp series. It has riveting action but ends with a moment of deep thought. Good read. I put it up there with transfer of power and protect and defend
