    Synopsis

Jayne Ann Krentz has crafted "romantic suspense of the highest order" (Amazon.com) in twenty-two New York Times bestsellers, including her recent blockbuster, Flash. Now, she unearths secrets at a New Age resort, where a hard-edged businessman and a beautiful art expert make a tantalizing mind-body connection — and where a killer threatens their piece of paradise.

Alexa Chambers has a flair for style, an eye for art — and a reputation in tatters. An expert in Art Deco, she blew the whistle on an employer who was selling fakes to wealthy clients. Her payoff? No job and no prospects. Now she runs a shop in her hometown of Avalon, Arizona — a hot spot for crystal devotees and sunset gazers. But gutsy, energetic Alexa has no intention of sitting still. She's ready to take risks to rebuild her career...and she secretly consults on an exquisite deco collection being installed at the new Avalon Resorts. Her scheme might just work — if she can steer clear of the resort's owner, the enigmatic and possibly dangerous J. L. Trask.

Alexa was a scared teenager the last time she saw Trask, the man who accused her stepfather of murder. Insisting his dad's fatal car crash had been no accident, Trask vowed one day he'd come back to Avalon for revenge. Now, twelve years later, their meeting is inevitable. Their attraction is immediate. And their chances of bliss are infinitesimal.

Trask wants to piece together the past with Alexa's help — and get closer to this dazzling deco diva. Alexa wants to protect her family — and figure out Trask's real motivations. But when a killer emerges from the shadows, they have no choice but to team up to solve a deadlycrime from long ago. As they trade sizzling sparks and snappy repartee loaded with sensual suggestion, their trail leads to a trendy spa called the Dimensions Institute, whose flaky denizens and strange atmosphere suggest there is more hidden there than meets the eye. They don't need a crystal ball to see that their survival — and relationship — depends on more than tantric breathing or a heavenly passion. They need a little help from a higher power: a true and trustworthy love.

    Annotation

Krentz kicks it into high gear withEye of the Beholder — a fascinating tale of romantic suspense! Alexa lives in Avalon, Arizona, a crystal- and New Age-set resort. She's trying to rebuild a career in art when she runs head-on into J. L. Trask. He's the yin to her yang, and maybe it's love, or maybe he's Mr. Wrong. But there's more to a Krentz novel than meets the eye — romance, mystery, and that trademark Krentz style all make for terrific reading.

    Library Journal

Twelve years after his father's suspicious death, J.L. Trask returns to Avalon, AZ, to open the latest in his string of luxury resorts but also to investigate what really happened. While in Avalon, Trask crosses paths with Alexa Chambers, art expert and boutique owner, who has her own reasons for cooperating with Trask's search for the truth. As smoothly polished and elegantly crafted as the art deco objets d'art that grace the plot, Krentz's latest romance is a seamless blend of passion and suspense. Lightly seasoned with touches of humor, this stellar romance should win new readers for Krentz (a.k.a. Amanda Quick and Jayne Castle), who lives in the Seattle area.--JC, SM Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.

July 27, 2009: I love this book. I stayed up all night just to finish it. Alexa Chambers is defendly a strong female character and can hold her own. Trask is one of those silent and dangerous types, but ends up softening for Alexa in the end. Love this book and this will not be the last of Jayne Ann Krentz books that I read.

I Also Recommend: Running Hot, All Night Long, White Lies, Trust Me.

July 13, 2005: This book was not that good. The romance part was a little too sudden. I mean, she hasn't seen him in 12 years and the first time she touches him she actually imagines a spark. That's trying a little too hard for romance, in a book. And I didn't really like the suspense part of this book. It didn't keep you interested enough to actually want to finish the book. I, also, didn't like the way the author gave you so much evidence in one suspect, leading you to believe they did it, and then killing them off right after she introduces another suspect with more incriminating evidence. I didn't like that very much. But all in all, it was a really OKAY book.
