    Synopsis

#1 New York Times bestsellingauthor David Baldacci follows the instant success of Divine Justice with another unstoppable thriller.

Sean King and Michelle Maxwell, back from their harrowing and near-fatal adventure in the blockbuster #1 bestseller Simple Genius, return in a mesmerizing new thriller. A daring kidnapping turns a children's birthday party at Camp David into a national security nightmare, but the hostage is not who anyone would expect. The First Lady enlists the services of King and Maxwell to bring the child back safely. Years ago, King saved her then-senator husband from an assassin's bullet; whether they shared anything else is their secret. With Michelle still recovering from her own demons the pair are pushed to the limit, with forces aligned on all sides against them, and the line between friend and foe impossible to define...or defend.

    Publishers Weekly

Veteran character actor Ron McLarty brings a strong performance to a rather weak entry in Baldacci's political thriller series featuring ex-Secret Service agents turned private investigators, Sean King and Michelle Maxwell. When the president's niece, 12-year-old Willa, is kidnapped, the first lady brings in King and Maxwell to help find her. Unknown to the PIs, the motive behind the abduction has the potential to shake the presidency to the core. Although the action moves swiftly enough, the plot strains credibility, and it is to McLarty's credit that he manages to impart some reality with excellent character voices and sense of urgency. His reading is exceptional during the scenes between Willa and her kidnapper as he plumbs a depth of character beyond the written words. Strategically placed sound effects enhance the listening experience. A Grand Central hardcover (Reviews, Mar. 30). (Apr.)

December 03, 2009: Just as Willa, the niece of the First Lady was about to have the best birthday of her life, Willa gets the worst birthday present ever. Her mother gets killed, her father and brothers get drugged but worst of all Willa herself gets kidnapped. Jane Cox, the First Lady, panics and does everything she can do to help even though the FBI is already on the case. Jane Cox hires too people, Sean King and Michelle Maxwell, too find this abducted child at all costs, even if it takes to bring up the horrible memories and pasts of the First Family.

I really enjoyed this book because David Baldacci, the author, did an excellent job of keeping the reader's attention. The thrill he gave in this book really kept me wanting to read more. The twist and unpredictable events and characters throughout the book really made this book different than the other books. The ending of this book was typical however because the kidnapped niece gets rescued like any other kidnapping story, but what really made the story interesting was that there was a twist. The kidnapper turns into the rescuer. Just like this kidnapper, David Baldacci gives a twist to each character within their personality. Another character that David Baldacci displays this twist is the President in First Family. You would make the assumption that the President would be the good guy in this story but what triggers the whole story is the President's unforgettable and unforgiveable past. The kidnapper, which later turns into a good guy, also has another twist. He kidnaps the niece of the First Lady for a reason far beyond money. He kidnaps the girl for a DNA check which is generally something you wouldn't expect a kidnapper to do with a kidnapped daughter, especially one related to the First Family. Overall David Baldacci did an excellent job with displaying characters, the thrills, and the ending. The only thing I didn't like about David Baldacci's book was that he tends to get off track easily in his book. He puts a lot of unnecessary events that do not correspond with the book's plot. The unnecessary events have nothing to do with the book and it just seems like a distraction from the rest of the story. Other than that everything else is fantastic about the book. In my opinion, the First Family was an excellent book and an excellent way to display David Baldacci's talents in his writing.

I recommend this book to young adults or older only because this book does contain some usage of foul language and imagery unsuitable for young children. But overall, I recommend this book to any type of person.
