In the early 1970s a special government program was created to help disadvantaged individuals succeed with their small businesses. Today the Small Business Administration's 8(a) business development program has helped many prosper in the world of small business. A Piece of the Pie profiles four success stories in the Washington, DC area and outlines the program's growing business opportunities and resources made available for the economically disadvantaged. Authors Peter Fretty and Shelton Rhodes bring an inspiring story of how dedicated entrepreneurs, through determination and perseverance, were able to successfully achieve their goal of running a business. The book also examines how the 8(a) program, and others like it, can give an economic boost to neighborhoods and communities by creating jobs that employ highly skilled individuals.

October 09, 2005: I found this book to be very uplifting and inspiring because the young teenager suffering from Lyme disease encounters daily struggles with a positive attitude and strength to overcome each obstacle. She sees the good through the bad and truly knows this is a temporary battle for her. I would recommend this book for anyone experiencing 'stuff' to remind them that tomorrow is a new day and it is our CHOICE to make it count. Order the book, give it to family and friends and then notice what changes occur within your next conversations. I'll bet its remarkable!
