HAPPINESS is less about WHAT WE WANT OUT OF LIFE... AND MORE about what we don't want. Something that only experience can teach us: and a lesson that's better learned early than late.
DARK LILLY E is a fictional account of the genuine and real, positive and negative forces, which inhabit both the human soul and the human spirit.
From the sublime beauty of our most heartwarming and radiant thoughts and actions, to the unbelieveable horrors of our most diabolical and evilest deeds and desires.
Moreover, this modern-day tale of Good vs Evil delves deep into the heart of the human condition, through the perspective of its varied and various characters, and their many different trials, tribulations, and tests in life.
Especially that most basic of all tests: the test of our human fiber. The test of right versus wrong. A test which life throws at us everyday, as it conspires to pit the good--which is in all of us--against the evil--which is in all of us--and then forces us to choose between the two: over and over again.
For Lilly, and the four other members of her all female, 'Reality Rock' band, not only must they overcome the forces of evil which lurk within us all, as they seek fame, fortune, and happiness in life, but they must also try to avoid an evil force which lurks about.
An evil force which lurks about in the form of an oddly sadistic serial killer: one who wishes to feature Lilly--along with all the other members of her band--as the star attractions in his "Murderous Midsummer Musical: for the serial killer in us all," premiering in Hell, just as soon as he can send Lilly and all of her bandmates down.
Throw in a detective with the nose of aBloodhound and the instincts of a psychic; along with a smooth as silk, crooked attorney, and his drug dealing sidekick; plus a host of other colorful characters; and this tale of drama and intrigue, trumpeting the value of good old fashioned common sense, while praising 'the angels of our better nature', and exposing the primitive, mindless beast in us all, for what it truly is, told in a literary style that's almost poetic in it's usage of the English language, will have you transfixed, from beginning to end.
DARK LILLY E is a tale of friendships, loyalties, and faith. It's a tale of men and women, and love and hate. It's a story about life: and what we can accomplish--good and evil--when we choose to believe in something greater than ourselves.
So, go ahead: take a peek into the colorful world of DARK LILLY E. and her all female 'Reality Rock' band.
You'll soon discover--that these aint yo' daddy's little dreamgirls.

May 10, 2009: "Dark Lilly E." by V.L. Sullivan introduces us to five young women: Lilly, Chloe, Ivy, Thea and Sunny. Set in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay area, these women are in an alternative rock band featuring Dark Lilly E. Although they love to party, they are hardworking and have dreams of making it big. The story mainly centers on the lead singer, Lilly.
Lilly has demons of her own. She is trying to cope with the murder of her sister, Veronica. Although she was murdered three years before, Lilly would do anything to catch her killer. There is someone in the band that is keeping secrets of her own. One night when the girls are on their way to perform, Lilly see's something; she may just be a key witness to a murder. Little does she know, she was seen, too. This is where the story starts to become interesting, and suspenseful. There are two murderers on the loose, one we are introduced to early on in the book and the other is THE LADYKILLER. Detective Trumaine (is a character to say the least) is determined to find the killer/killers. Even with the Feds involved he will stop at nothing to apprehend the murderer. The clock is ticking and Lilly and the girls just may be next. "Dark Lilly E." was suspenseful yet saturated with too much information. I believe that Mr. Sullivan could have cut down significantly on the 674 pages. The book was very repetitive and the language, not sure if it is the slang or what, made the book somewhat difficult to read. Mr. Sullivan definitely has a way with words but a lot of it was unnecessary. The book may intimidate you due to its size, but this book was a uniquely told story, with Mr. Sullivan's wording. All in all, it was an okay read. Reviewed by LeonaRReader Rating:

December 31, 2008:
Dark Lilly E. is a bonafide 'epic tale' of good versus evil, heroes and villains, and devils and angels. One which takes place over the course of 4 months in the late spring and early summer of the current year.
The titular character, Dark Lilly E., a singer/songwriter who fronts her own all female 'Reality Rock' band, just wants to be happy and make it as a multi-platinum selling musical group with the other 4 young ladies in her band.
Nothing fancy.
But, as difficult as that may be, with legitimate odds of 'making it big' in the music industry being a million to one, Lilly comes to realize that sometimes the odds of ever finding true happiness in life are even greater than a million to one: particularly if we allow our actions to sabotage our plans; a charge which Lilly could be accused of, exceptionally bright and level-headed though she may be.
Not content to allow the proper authorities to deal with resolving the death of her older sister and her only sibling, Lilly decides to seek out the person whom she suspects to be responsible for her sister no longer being alive, and she hatches a plan to find them, which imperils her life in the process, and puts all the other members of her band 'in harms way' as well.
In the meantime, men keep dying near or around the members of the band, or the venues where they perform, causing some of those same authorities who once sympathized with Lilly, now to suspect that some of her 'hits' might be other than the musical variety.
When Lilly discovers that she may have had the wrong person squarely in her out of focus sights, causing her to be unwary and trusting of the real perpetrator: it becomes a race between Lilly's best friend Chloe, the police, a private eye, a crooked attorney and his drug dealing sidekick, to see if they can get to Lilly before the real killer does.
If it be true that for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction, then DARK LILLY E., as a story, epitomizes that fact.
When Lilly does good, she does oh so good.
And when she does bad, she does deadly.
DARK LILLY E. is a story that any liver of life will love. You'll see yourself in here. Simply because, "You don't read this book... you live it!
