      Synopsis

Peace Breeds Prosperity; Poverty Hinders Peace

Peace and poverty cannot coexist. Peace is not merely the absence of conflict. Establishing and maintaining peace will take far more creativity, dedication, and hard work than war ever did. True peace would be much cheaper and far less traumatic than any war, but, to date, no one has been able to pull it off.

The essays in this collection introduce creative ideas for ending poverty everywhere, in the hope that humans can finally build a truly peaceful society where everyone enjoys at least the basic benefits of prosperity, for the first time in history.

May 09, 2010: I truly thought it might be "some" original, progressive thought, but it ended up being a meandering piece that really went nowhere. Subsequent to "trying" to read this, I heard her on an NPR interview and realized then that she hasn't a cogent thought in her head.

      Inspiring.

Debbie Jordan shares her vision for a world where basic human needs are met. Shelter, food, transportation, basic clothing, medical, psychological care, dental and vision care, education, and job training, are a few of the items on her list. She is careful to state the need and want are two very different things. Jordan continues her dreams but explains where the funding would come from and the work force. Ending poverty and ending peace go hand-in-hand in Jordan's theory.

Debbie Jordan writes in an easy-to-read manner. Her thoughts are well organized and flow smoothly on the pages. Jordan has inspiring ideas. I hope that someday they are enacted.
