      Synopsis

Finding serenity after the horrors of the federales in Mexico

Carmen Montemayor-Montemayor leaves his beloved Mexico at the age of fourteen toward the end of the Mexican revolution. If he doesn't go, he will be pulled into the federales he has watched torture and slaughter neighbors and friends and destroy property.

During this journey, Carmen encounters horrendous storms, swollen rivers, beautiful women, true friendship, and affirmation of his faith in padre Dios.

On arriving in America, Carmen comes to be called Carlos when immigration officials felt Carmen was too "girly" for a man and gave him the name Carlos instead, which was carried over to his naturalization papers. You will learn that whether it is Carmen or Carlos, he was an industrious, hard-working, man who would come to have his own business and help create a wonderful family with his beloved Dominga Rodriguez Montemayor. Carlos tells us briefly of his children and their spouses, but his life centers around his love for God and for his beloved Dominga, even long after she has died.
