September 24, 2008: How I wish I would have read this book twenty-five years ago! It would have saved me from years of grief. I have always struggled with my relationship with my parents, and even now at 50-something, I am reduced to being ten years old when I am in their presence. The book helped me to start working on conquering the guilt I have always felt for not liking my parents and gave me some alternatives as to what to do next. I have never read a book that said it was okay to remove certain people from your life. I am finally feeling that it will be possible for me to be strong and stand up for myself. This book changed how I feel about my life and gave me hope. I no longer feel alone, I will keep this book with me for the rest of my life!

September 20, 2008: This book is amazing!!! It is well-written, practical, and thoughtful, and it has made me look at my life in a whole new way. The advice is excellent, and I truly believe that everyone should read it. - The world would be a different place. The main focus of the book is personal responsibility, respect, and realistic expectations. The authors explain about what is really your personal responsibility so that you don?t take on too much or too little. (It helps you to make sure you do your part and keeps you from being taken advantage of.) Their section on parenting is brilliant by the way! The respect section is really introspective. They really helped me understand that I wasn?t treating myself respectfully, and they also explained the difference between respect and respectfulness (i.e. even if you don?t respect someone, you need to have a high standard of behavior), and how it is really important to only respect only those who earn it (even if this means you can?t respect your parents.) The realistic expectation portion is funny and useful. They detail ten realistic expectations that can be applied to any situation in your life and help you make better choices. All in all, an excellent read that was incredibly helpful.
