    Synopsis

France-Germany in the 21st Century is an analysis of the cooperation and disputes which have marked the Franch-German relationship since the Maastricht Treaty. It deals with the “Euro” and devises a European security policy in the aftermath of Kosovo and with the new structure of the European Union. Patrick McCarthy presents information concerning two countries that fought three wars in one century and then decided not just to make peace, but to form an alliance. The book focuses on the way France and Germany see each other, which depends on the way they see themselves. France-Germany in the 21st Century presents the new Europe the countries are trying to create and the march into the difficult millennium.

    Booknews

The nine specialists in European studies are not in fact predicting a merger between the two largest European countries in the near future. Rather they analyze the cooperation and disputes that have marked the relationship between them since the Maastricht Treaty. Those include the Euro, European security policy in the aftermath of Kosovo, and the new structure of the European Union. The contributors are or have been associated with Johns Hopkins University.
