This is a guide for experienced Internet users awash in the confusing array of file formats available through gopher, FTP, and the World Wide Web. Zhang, an electronic resources librarian (Univ. of Rochester), provides an impressive array of information. For example, in the chapter "Sound and Music," she details eight audio file formats, shareware and freeware available for playing audio files, sources of related online documents and sample audio files, related WWW sites, and explains how to install a speaker in your PC. Throughout, Zhang discusses file transfer, processing files for use on a PC, and identifying software and hardware needs to render files usable. Information is also nicely summarized in a series of appendixes. Highly recommended as a book-in-hand reference.Raymond Hamel, Wisconsin Regional Primate Research Ctr. Lib., Madison
