Watch out! These babysitters will stab you in the back.
Everything changes for Hazel Stone when she's noticed by Sylvia, queen bee of their high school's popular girls, the Pretty Little Devils. Sylvia invites Hazel to one of the group's famous soireesheld at the site of one of their babysitting jobs. Hazel couldn't be more thrilled! But what she doesn't know is that popularity comes with a price. Some people can become jealous of a girl's newfound status deadly jealous. One of these babysitting babes is a killer! Hazel has to figure out which one, before they turn their backstabbing ways on her.
Welcome to Brookhaven High, where some girls would die to be part of the in crowd. One is a killer; before the school year is over, three will die. Who will make the cut? The pretty little devils is the most popular clique in school. Sylvia Orly is the ruthless ring leader of the clique. Megan Williams and Carolyn Bosch will do anything to stay on Sylvia's good side. Ellen Schmidt is the group's scapegoat, and the newest member, Hazel Stone, just wants to be noticed. Popularity comes with a price because of the things one has to do in order to keep in good standing. The other big player is Brandon Wilde, one of Brookhaven's jocks. He is juggling relationships and has tons of girls after him. Matty Vardeman is the mysterious new guy who has caught Hazel's attention. Breana Wu, head cheerleader, will do whatever it takes to get what she wants--and what she wants is Matty. She is also the PLD's top rival. It is a very interesting book that will keep one "at it" to the end because of the mystery and the intrigue. It is a bit disturbing because of the cruelty and attacks against weaker and not-so-popular students. This book is thought provoking because we know that some of this behavior goes on in our schools. It will probably become a popular book with teens. 2006, Razor Bill/Penguin, Ages 14 to 18.

October 27, 2009: At first I thought this was going to be a total re-write of the Pretty Little Liars books...even down to the title being similar. But this book has so much more drama than Liars ever did for me. So many times I was screaming at the characters, or with them as things happened. I love the character of Hazel, she seems someone that i would love to have as a friend in school. The clique's in the school are the tired predictable cheerleaders versus rich popular girls, but this book didnt dewll in that for too long, focusing more on the Pretty Little Devils and the drama they get wrapped up in. The twists and turns in this book kept me guessing right till the very last page. I really hope there is another book in this series because I think it will do way better than PLL. If you are looking for nail biting suspense and not a vampire in sight, grab this book NOW!!
