      Synopsis

Jeff Wignall—author of the bestselling Joy of Photography—knows how to encourage photographers of all skill levels: his easy-to-grasp explanations of technique and equipment, and his inspirational attitude have distinguished The Joy of Digital Photography from any other digital manual. And now the best book on the subject is getting an update, to include all the newest technology and software. Everything is covered and illustrated with top-of-the-line images: digital vision; digital tools (cameras, lenses, accessories); common problems and solutions; exposure and flash; working with light; handling weather seasons and mood; travel and landscape photography; portraiture; sports photography; post-production, including seeing, sharing, and storing digital images; basic desktop printing; the digital darkroom; a Photoshop primer; sharing the image; and much, much more.

      Good General Referenceby Highwater

July 13, 2009: I bought The Joy of Digital Photography because I thought it might give me some ideas and tips and would provide a point of reference as to what an experienced, competent, and artistic photographer might teach me.

I found the book stimulating, interesting, and useful in evaluating my own competence and experience. The book is full of great images and useful general discussion, all of which were helpful to me.

If I had to complain about anything, I would say that too many of the photos were not discussed or analyzed by the author and so that many points that could have been made were lost.

But, the bottom line is that the book caused me to think about my own work, broadened my horizons, and led me to many things to explore so that reading and reflecting on the book was a positive experience.

July 06, 2008: The first time I sat down to read this book, I could only sit still for a few pages before grabbing my camera and heading out to take pictures. The simple discussions of every concept relating to photography will help anyone take better pictures. I've read the book cover to cover twice and plan to do so again. Anytime someone I know buys a digital camera, this is my gift to them. The Joy of Digital Photography is simply one of the best books you could buy on the subject
