This series of young adult fiction novels follows Mindy, a teenage girl from modern-day Salem, as she time travels to key moments in American history to fight off alien invasions. Each book highlights approximately 500 historical facts about the period in which the book is set with humorous, engaging lists interspersed throughout. This series supports high school history curricula, but can also can be used to prepare for the A.P. U.S. History SAT subject tests.

    DREADFUL!by PeriwinkleCapuchin

March 09, 2009: This book had great potential. A wonderful premise, to write a novella using historical facts with fictional characters. UNFORTUNATELY, the authors must have convinced themselves that the only way to captivate a pre-teen/teenager is to use vulgarity and profanity. It was belittling to the reader and completely unnecessary.

The only (slightly) redeeming quality was the few fact-filled pages sandwiched between some of the chapters. Those pages were interesting and well done.
