June 03, 2007: This is a very impressive book. It has been designed to cover many of the major topics relating to ASP.NET, with each section providing a ?deep dive? into the fundamentals of the concept, followed by ?immediate solutions? which provide cut and paste code samples that developers can use immediately. The book is divided into the following sections: ? ASP.NET 2.0 Essentials ? Developing a Web Application ? Applications and State ? Web Forms: Standard Controls ? Navigation Controls ? Validation Controls ? Login Controls ? Web Parts controls ? HTML Controls ? Working with Database ? Inside master Pages and Themes ? Understanding User Profiles ? Inside Web Parts Framework ? Caching in ASP.NET 2.0 ? Application Globalization ? ASP.NET Web Services ? Developing Mobile Applications ? Application Tracking Each section starts out with an overview of all the concepts to be covered in the chapter. In the case of chapters that deal with controls, each control is quickly discussed along with its relationship to other controls in the chapter. After the introductory material, the reader is presented with detailed information on each concept, be it detail on a specific web control, class or other attribute. I found the discussions to be very clear, the explanations concise yet detailed enough to provide a good starting point for development. This is a very good book for expanding most developer?s knowledge of ASP.NET 2.0. The CD included in the book allows the reader to try out the code samples used throughout the book, without having to worry about typing it all out. I found this to be a great reference for ASP.NET, and I think most developers will find that they will discover something valuable from
