This installment of the Bodyguard series finds protection specialist Natasha Chamberlain self-employed and happily involved with her former boss, Jonce Striker. Natasha's first case centers around Chumley, a champion show dog. The squat Pug has been sent a death threat regarding his participation in an upcoming event.
Although Natasha sees little danger in protecting a canine, she discovers that isn't the case when she ends up in the emergency room several times. If that isn't bad enough, she's finding it difficult to balance her new business with her increasing love for Striker. Meanwhile, Striker sees the investigation growing wackier and more dangerous by the day. His time is spent between trying to convince Natasha that the bodyguard business is too dangerous and deciding how he can persuade her to marry him."One of my favorite writers is back. This second book in The Bodyguard series reprises characters fans loved in the first, and throws a few new ones into the mix. Along with the action, suspense, and romance we expect from Ms. French, this book is liberally laced with humor.
Back for another round of action and danger are Natasha Chamberlain, the feisty bodyguard with a hair-trigger temper; Jonce Striker, her enigmatic half-Cherokee boss turned lover; Roger Valentine, a client in the first book and now a friend; Pit and Bigun, Valentine's Samoan bodyguards who spend half their time keeping Natasha out of trouble. This time Natasha is hired to guard Myrtle Galbreath's prize-winning show dog, Chumley. Chumley is ill-mannered and obnoxious but takes a shine to Natasha. Someone has threatened the dog's life if Myrtle enters him in an upcoming championship. Before too long the fur begins to fly in more ways than one as first Chumley and then Natasha are stalked by bad guys bent on eliminating them both. Natasha's unorthodox style as a bodyguard throws her into one scrape after another while Jonce works frantically behind the scenes to keep her alive. He plans to marry this infuriating woman and, one way or another, she's getting to the altar in one piece! Natasha's list of suspects adds intriguing dimensions to the mystery. Is it the seedy owner of a strip club, a lecherous Senator, a gang of vicious bikers, or a crazed State employee out to end her life? I suggest you read the book to find out. Christy Tillery French excels at creating very human characters, intense action, provocative storylines, and sizzling romance. Established fans and new readers will want more of this series. I hope book number three is in the offing, Ms. French. "More Reviews and RecommendationsReader Rating:

January 29, 2009: Picture the nuttiness of Cameron Diaz and the hard kick of Angelina Jolie and you get Natasha Chamberlain. In ?The Bodyguard and the Show Dog,? Christy Tillery French?s main character Natasha is as messy and off-putting as the Pug show dog she?s hired to protect. Somehow both are endearing in the escapades that romp through the pages. Who would think the competition of a dog show would be fierce enough to threaten harm to the award-winning Pug? Natasha reluctantly takes her first case as a protection specialist and finds the bite worse than expected once she starts investigating. When Striker, Natasha?s mentor and lover, tries to protect her, she demands the space to make mistakes. Returning minor characters Pit, Bigun and Roger are a delight when they try to help. French weaves action, romance, and mystery into this comedic novel.

June 10, 2006: I had the pleasure of reading Ms French's book, The Bodyguard. The Bodyguard and the Showdog is the second book of the series. I knew I was in for another ride of pure entertainment with the madcap antics of the heroine Natasha. Every story needs a hook to draw the reader in. Natasha is truly a character that would draw anybody in. The fact that she thinks she is capable of being a bodyguard is amusing enough. Going along for the ride with her as one mishap after another occurs is humorous as well as enjoyable. Natasha is a character that is slowly evolving. She is madly in love with Striker and finds herself at a crossroad. Should she do what he wants or do what is in her heart? What transpires is usually a bit of a disaster and not exactly true to either. But she is forever in the game, toting a gun and unafraid to use her skills to physically bring someone to their knees. The reader never knows what will happen next to Natasha. Her love for animals seems to get her in as many scrapes as her love of being a bodyguard. It doesn't matter if she is only guarding a little pug dog she in in the game 100%. This is a fast moving, often comical read. I highly recommend it for readers that need an escape from reality. Natasha is a character one can honestly love. I cannot wait to read more of this series.
