Barking Spiders is a magnificent collection of poems that universally appeals to people from all walks of life. This delightful collection playfully examines the experiences of childhood and makes its readers feel like children again.
CJ Heck's Barking Spiders And Other Such Stuff is a wonderfully entertaining collection of poems told from a child's perspective. Often funny, sometimes introspective, always honest, and illustrated with Michelle Lenkner's line drawings, these poems by CJ Heck form a wonderful introduction for young readers to the magic of poetry and rhyme. Hugs: Hugs come in different sizes,/Hugs feel different, too./There are sad hugs when you're crying,/That's when nothing else will do.//There are happy hugs for laughing./there are hugs for scary, too./But the hugs that I like best of all.../Are hugs for I Love You!

December 04, 2008: C.J. Heck has opened, not only the eyes of children and what they see but it opens adult eyes as to what is important in life. Sometimes the things we see as children and there importance are lost on us as we age. The really important things in life change to material gains instead of family, freinds and visions. CJ Hecks book can reopen our eyes as we read her poems and visualize what we felt as children. What is even better it opens a door of opportunity to discuss with children the visons we had. I can only give C.J. Heck my gratitude for a book well written and to let her know that it will have a place at my side forever.

May 19, 2007: This is a charming book of poetry written for children and the child in all of us. The characters in ?Barking Spiders? are loveable, fun and filled with the natural curiosity and honesty of a child. Being a fan of Heck?s adult poetry I was more than a bit impressed with this book, and how readers and listeners of all ages enjoy the simple truths and understanding Heck offers throughout the book. My three year old granddaughter wanted to hear it over and over again. The illustrator of this book is Michelle Lenkner her sketches are personable and add another dimension to an already wonderful book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to introduce a child to the magic of books and poetry. Reviewed by Debra J. Harmes Kurth
