      Synopsis

J.T. Whitman tells a unique story about people who get caught by a rare natural phenomenon—a straight lightning bolt. These straight bolts propel bystanders back in time. What would you do if you suddenly found yourself back in time? This action-packed novel describes the lives of three individuals with different motivations for wanting to change their lives the second time around. Wyatt Coleman is transported from 1999 back to 1970 and wants to know why. Jennifer Tomas is pulled from her spoiled lifestyle in 1992 and is forced to change it in 1968. Elisaio Munoz has just been released from prison in 1991, and is overcome with power and greed upon his return to 1984. Learn how these three people change the future.

December 16, 2008: I continually search for new books on the Internet every chance I get and it amazes me how many authors write similar stories. Yawn! Doesn?t anybody have an imagination anymore? And ladies give me a break on the time travel romance novels. It seems I have to scroll through hundreds of them before I find a story where someone didn?t have to travel back in time to find the love of their life. Enough already! I do occasionally find stories that peak my interest. Str8 Bolt was one.

In reading Str8 Bolt, I found it to be a one of a kind story. It was inimitable the way the author sent his characters through time and how a present day scientist developed a way to find and communicate with them. Bravo Mr. Whitman for developing a story that keeps the reader wanting to see what happens next. It?s not until the end of the story that everything comes together and the reader is left with an open mouth at the completely unexpected conclusion. Well done!

I must admit I thought I had the plot figured out several times but the author shot big holes in each of my theories and left me hanging. I became frustrated with story more than once. But again, when I got to the end of the book it all made sense and came together very nicely. It was clever how the author used this emotion to build the suspense. I decided to read the book a second time and found there were many subtle clues which I passed off as insignificant the first time through. Unlike most novels this book is one in which readers should take their time in reading it. If you read it quickly, you can get lost. Take your time. The story is worth it. I enjoyed it much more the second time through.

I found the characters very real and believable. I liked the way the author gave me just enough of a description to let my imagination form my own visual conception of how the characters look. The entire book forced me to use my imagination, which was refreshing. I hate reading books where the author takes several pages to describe a thought, or a street, or the head to toe details of a character, or the description of an object. Boring! I can and did think for myself. This author gave me just enough information to let my imagination fill in the details allowing me to participate in the story making it much more personal to me, the reader.

As for the grammar, I don?t know why the author, publisher, or editor produced this book without a final proof read or not. It didn?t really bother me. I just finished a John Grisham book and a Stephen King book and they had grammar errors too. Yes, not as many but there were some. There?s no quality anymore so I do knit-pick about the little things. I would think just getting a book published is a pretty big accomplishment.

I would recommend this book to everyone with the caveat to slow down and take your time reading the story. Str8 Bolt is fast paced. It teases the reader by setting up several possible scenarios for several conclusions only to drop an unexpected bomb at the end. What a great book!

September 22, 2008: There is no doubt that new authors will be hit by the offenders of ugly critiques. I judge the book by it's every level of work. Perhaps editing was overlooked with Str8 Bolt. That being said, the story content, idea and plotting was outstanding. Credit where credit is due. This is a story of fine writing with a good idea and gripping plot. Dare not cut the legs out from under the runner before he leaves the blocks...hopefully, we have not seen the last of this writer of interesting tale. I recommend this book to anyone.
