January 20, 2005: Author, K.A. Schneider, has a classic movie in the making with his novel, The Scent of Magnolias and Men. Moving swiftly through the Civil War era in Memphis, TN., you are enamored with characters so lively and real, it captivates the mind with visual effects. Triangle romance between friends; Leslie Turnbull, his rival Buckwald (Buck) Harris, and the love intended Josephine (Joie) Parker creates passionate love, hatred, murder and revenge. The heroine, Josephine, is betrothed to Leslie Turnbull by virtue of a prenuptial agreement between their wealthy fathers. After the death of Buck?s father, Major Hampton Harris, Buck discovers hidden secrets of his birth which will send Leslie Turnbull into a raving maniac. Skeletons in the closets emerge; one after the other, engulfing the whole town in gossip and thrusts them into headlong deadly conflicts. Buck schemes to overthrow the power behind Turnbull / Parker lumber brokers, thus sending him on a journey which will, eventually, turn the entire town of Memphis into mayhem. The ending will put you on the edge of your seat! 5 stars to K.A. Schneider, for a job well done. It?s a great book.
