Toys are an integral part of children's lives, shaping their interests, skills, and creativity. Now, for the first time, world-renowned toy store F.A.O. Schwarz presents a book for parents, celebrating the innovation, longevity, and educational value of more than fifty American toys.
TOYS FOR A LIFETIME covers some of the most memorable and beloved toys, past and present, from infant and toddler toys to dolls and action figures to board games. Dr. Stevanne Auerbach, the author of the weekly syndicated "Dr. Toy" column, evaluates each toy on the basis of its educational value, and safety, and suggests new ways to use toys with our children. Dr. Toy traces the evolution of the American toy and how it has inspired creativity, confidence, and achievement in children of all ages.
F.A.O. Schwarz is the bastion of America's world of toys, having served for over a century as a showplace for cutting-edge ideas, a fun-filled repository of classic toys, and a home to the inner child in all of us. From Frank Lloyd Wright's first exposure to Froebel Blocks a century ago to a child's first glimpse at LEGO's high-tech Mindworks today, F.A.O. Schwarz has offered toys that seize our imagination with their playful manifestation of science, art, and culture.
