      Synopsis

California archaeology student Chione Ini-Herit has vivid dreams about the discovery of an opulent tomb. After learning that Chione’s dreams are playing out in Egypt, the founder of the California Institute of Archaeology accepts an offer to examine a mysterious site in Valley of the Queens. When they discover a tomb, things begin to unravel.

Magical spells encoded into the hieroglyphs on the tomb’s walls transport Chione and her former boyfriend, fellow archaeologist Aaron Ashby, back 3,500 years to ancient Egypt. Even stranger, Aaron and Chione begin to morph into Tutankhamon and Tauret, a priestess in Pharaoh’s Court, after learning that Tauret coded the magical spells into the hieroglyphs to keep her and Pharaoh irrevocably joined in the afterlife.

When other team members speak the spells aloud, they, too, are affected in unfathomable ways by the Ka, the spirit of the entombed person. Chione and Aaron learn that Tauret has conjured powerful spells to provide Tutankhamon with a living heir, and Tauret has chosen Chione and Aaron to complete her destiny…

July 21, 2008: I was kind of amped about this book. i had searched for about two hours on line and kept narrowing my search for books about archaeology of ancient egypt with a kind of sci fi atomosphere about it and this was the only book that really hit all of those cords. i was going on vacation in two days so i had it priority shipped. thats how excited about it i was. It kept me very entertainned on my vacation and i wanted to know what was next so i tended to drag it along where ever we went. For some reason it seemed alittle empty to me on some level and I just can't decide why, thats why I gave it a 4 and not a 5. Another reason was that I believe the editor missed alot of mistakes. It got to a point where I was somewhat upset because to me it took away from the story. I think one of the most effective tools of writing is grammer and the flaws didn't fit. The end also seemed alittle unresolved but I got over that because it gave me an opportunity to consider all of the possiblities and make up my own mind of what might have happened. The rest of the book, the writing, the plot, the settings were all well done and it also kept a fairly quick pace. The author didn't waste time with useless details or pointless events. The book was the perfect length. Not long enough for me to be bored and not short enough for me to wish it had kept going. It was well balanced. I recomend it to anyone who loves ancient egypt as much as I do 'which is beyond words' because all of the historical details are generally correct and I recomend it to anyone who likes alittle vacation from average story lines.

February 19, 2007: After reading many of her short stories and her first book, The Tropics, I became permanently hooked on author, Mary Deal. Having waited for months for her new book, The Ka, to be published, I was thrilled to get my hands on it and start reading! The Ka is a masterful blend of fantasy, mystery and suspense, with liberal dashes of humor, and generous pinches of wit, bound together by a stirring romance that not only transcends time, but forever binds present to past. Using the backdrop of both ancient and modern day Egypt, each page grabs you and propels you to the next. Brimming with rich, historically accurate details, Ms. Deal?s vibrant characters, spontaneous dialog, and vivid scenery makes this a book you will not be able to put down! Follow the premonitions of archaeology student, Chione Ini-Herit, as she and her former love interest, Aaron Ashby, along with the California Institute of Archaeology team, travel through this spellbinding novel toward destiny and providence, transformation and fulfillment to the exciting conclusion that will leave you both satisfied and wanting more. Bravo Mary! I?m looking forward to your next book!
