Love's Lasting Song is a contemporary romance set in the sultry south Texas heat. Protagonist Julie Barnes is a reporter for The Laredo Mirror, and has authored a scandalous novel under a pseudonym. Her secret success is hidden from friends and public, because Julie refuses to cave in to ambition, as her mother did.
Julie's mother, Angel Downs, was a Laredo girl who tried to make it in Hollywood, and didn't; Julie can deal with her sense of abandonment and loss only by managing every aspect of a life that refuses to acknowledge love.
Then Joaquin Gonzalez, internationally known composer and singer, comes to town to film Julie's book, Shades. Devastatingly good-looking, arrogant, and successful, Joaquin is everything that Julie has spent a lifetime avoiding.
Joaquin's celebrity status assures that he will be constantly surrounded by the world's most beautiful women, all clamoring for his attention. . .and his love. But Joaquin's intentions are simple: seduce Julie, in spite of all the obstacles to a lasting relationship with the woman he plucked up from a Nuevo Laredo street.
Although a romance, Love's Lasting Song touches on issues of change and inevitability, while providing glimpses into a unique and colorful border culture.

December 29, 2002: "Love's Lasting Song" is the sort of love story that takes you on a wonderful flight of fancy ~ fantasy. Ms. Garcia's style flows smoothly. I enjoyed getting to know her characters, from the reasonable, yet passionate, heroine and the utterly seductive, very sympatico, hero to the cast of hometown folks who support both. The premise of the story is the stuff of which dreams are made. I certainly dreamt along... Well done!

October 15, 2002: A beautifully romantic tale of two unlikely lovers. Since being abandoned by her mother years earlier, Julie Barnes truly believed she couldn't be loved. Once she discovers that international latin singer Joaquin Gonzalez is in town shooting the part of the fiery latin lover, Alfonso, in a spicy movie "Shades", Julie has high hopes of a run-in with her favorite singer. After meeting him Julie discoveries that he is arrogant and she wonders why she ever liked him. Being a reporter Julie's assignment is to interview the arrogant Joaquin. He is instantly attracted to her. At first, with her guard held high, she denies her true feelings until that one chance encounter. But could it last? After all, Julie and Joaquin are from seperate worlds. Love's Lasting Son is an excellent read that holds one's attention from beginning to end. I highly recommend this well-written book to all of the romantics at heart.
