April 16, 2006: This book is a great mathematical resource, covering most if not all the areas required to be able to mathematically master problems in engineering. If you have a fair understanding of all the material in this book, you will handle any engineering problem thrown at you. The only thing it lacks is more applied math excercise problems, but if you like pure mathematics then you won't have a problem. The book is definitely not a substitute for a good math professor, and you won,t get much if you have not completed at least calculus III, hence the name 'Advanced Engineering Mathematics.' I appreciated it more when I started taking courses in differential equations and vector analysis. Some of the topics in the book were not even covered by the professor. You will also have to get accustomed to the authors directness when attacking a topic. Then again, if the book were written any more in depth it would probably be 3000 pages long. To sum it all up the book is a great mathematical reference and a great book to learn the mathematical tools required for the field of engineering.
