    Synopsis

Don't leave Earth without this hilarious international bestseller about the end of the world and the happy-go-lucky days that follow...about the worst Thursday that ever happened and why the Universe is a lot safer if you bring a towel.

    About the Author

New York Times bestselling author Douglas Adams enjoyed amazing success on both sides of the Atlantic in radio, television, theater, and spoken-word audio. He authored the bestselling trilogy The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that sold over 14 million copies worldwide as well as the other four titles in that trilogy (yes, it's five in the trilogy, not three). He also wrote the bestselling titles Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, and Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. In May, 2001, Douglas Adams passed away unexpectedly leaving millions of fans worldwide. The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time is the treasure he left behind on the hard drive of his beloved Macintosh. Look for each of these classic titles available from New Millennium Audio.

    Annotation

The story of a British earthling plucked from his planet, and his subsequent adventures elsewhere in the universe.

    Gale Research

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as well as its sequels,The Restaurant at the End of the Universe; Life, the Universe and Everything; So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish; and Mostly Harmless, is "inspired lunacy that leaves hardly a science fictional cliche alive," as Washington Post Book World contributor Lisa Tuttle describes it.

November 16, 2009: One wild sci-fi drug trip. This book was hilarious in so many ways, from the one-liners, the puns, and just plain lunacy. This is a must read for all sci-fi fans and geeks alike. This ridiculous novel is an inspiration.

Read this novel and you just might discover the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

October 30, 2009: I began reading "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" as a requirement for an English Composition 1 class. I had to drop the class due to scheduling errors but I decided to continue reading the story (and of course who wouldn't after such a great introduction). Arthur Dent awakes hung-over to find that his house is about to be demolished so the city can build a Bypass to speed up the process of getting from Point A to Point B. He is then rescued from the Earth's own demolition, so a "hyper-spatial bypass" can be built, by his friend Ford Prefect who just so happens to be a Hitchhiking alien from a small planet in the surroundings of Betelguese 5, and a researcher for one of the Universe's best selling informational books ~"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"~ They hitch a ride on one of the Universe's 3rd worst poets, the "Vogons," ships and then get thrown into space to be rescued out of all improbability, by the Zaphod Beeblebrox and Trillian on the famous Heart of Gold, which is driven by the Infinite Improbability drive. They then begin their odd and improbable adventures through the universe. All the characters of the book can be fondly described as completely insane and I was laughing, chuckling, and snickering all the way through at Douglas Adams' crazy takes on humanity, his many made up items, and his answer to life, the universe, and everything. Crazy one-liners, odd and sudden off topic descriptions, and lots of made up statistics load the book with tons of fun. I loved this book so much that I read it again almost immediately after I finished it! I would recommend doing so (although maybe not so soon) because many hidden jokes or obscure oddities one may believe mildly humorous or even down right side splitting can be found within the second reading of the story. The random "not so facts" given suddenly from the book's inner ~"Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"~ (the one described within the story) are hilarious and most often almost completely off topic to the plot. Douglas Adams words the book incredibly well, writing smoothly and with a mock informational tone. The mock descriptions that he writes as from ~"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"~ are completely hilarious and they make this book a work of true comic lunacy, or as Douglas Adams may have described it, totally "Out to Lunch."

I Also Recommend: Life, the Universe and Everything (Hitchhiker's Guide Series #3), So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish (Hitchhiker's Guide Series #4), Mostly Harmless (Hitchhiker's Guide Series #5), The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (Hitchhiker's Guide Series #2).
