August 31, 2006: This book does provide some simple but insightful exercises. By themselves, they are helpful in moving people to AbT. The real value that I found was that it actually sparked some very practical new ideas for my coaching clients and several team development workshops that I am currently working on. I was skeptical of the 'picture book' concept but realized it was similar to going through an Appreciative Inquiry in that the PROCESS of reading actually made me feel energized, optimistic, and eager to implement these ideas. The lone drawback, in my opinion, is that the authors could have pointed to more research for the effectiveness of their approach. In the end, this is a pretty good read that proved inspirational AND practical for me and my work.
